Kundalini yoga is the yoga of awareness and awakens inside you loving intelligence and the supreme energy of life. I personally have witnessed how it helps me have vitality to withstand so many stressors and challenges in life. I feel like I can really manage it.  It has helped me both physically, mentally and emotionally, which having those areas more balanced has in turn strengthened me spiritually. It’s one pathway that can take you to your authentic self. It strengthens your ability to be you and to share your light and that which you have specifically come here to share.

Information from Meditation As Medicine: Activate the Power of Your Natural Healing Force by Dharma Singh Khalsa, M.D. and Cameron Stauth

NOT ALL MEDITATION IS EQULALLY EFFECTIVE

Dr.  Dharma Singh Khalsa, MD (who met Yogi Bhajan and uses Kundalini kriyas and meditations but calls it “Medical Meditation” because he uses it in his practice) said, “Medical meditation surpasses the more mundane forms of meditation, I believe, because it more fully addresses every element of our physical and ethereal makeup.  It is, to put it plainly, a more full service approach. It nurtures every aspect of our being.”

Medical meditation uses advanced meditation, which consist of these unique attributes:

  1. Specific breathing patterns
  2. Special postures and movements, including exact position of the hands and fingers
  3. Particular mantras, consisting of distinct, vibratory sounds
  4. A unique mental focus

“These various attributes fully involve the mind, body and spirit of the meditator. The combination of all the attributes exerts a synergistic effect and endows Medical Meditation with far more power than standard meditation, which often involves simply relaxing.” P10

 “This study disclosed that in basic meditation, only a small area of the brain is engaged, according to advanced brain-image scans. When the elements of Medical Meditation are added, however, there is new activity in deeper anatomic structures of the brain, including the amygdala, other areas of the hippocampus and the pons.”   P47 (study designed by Singh Khalsa, Ph.D. conducted by Sara Lazar, Ph.D. of the Mind/Body Medical Institute through the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital)

Kundalini meditations bring activity to areas of the brain that help with memory, motivation and emotions/emotional responses (hippocampus and amygdala).  It also activates the pons which deals with sleep, respiration, swallowing, bladder control, hearing, equilibrium, taste, eye movement, facial expressions/sensation and posture.
